Based on the number of models being made of one particular one, I'd suspect this was a bit of a no brainer. The Eagle nose type one is by far the most popular.

Which, but of course, explains why PE went against the herd and picked another one for its Eagle Gift set. Sigh.

That's because no garage kit manufacturer had made one for them to copy. Uncle Bill's model kit got ripped for the PE one.

No doubt we'll see a Swift from 1612 soon.

No, there's a vital link in the chain missing unless Alex is planning to sell them through Comet.

Ah, a logical explanation, and so typical.

There's an interesting comparison of the PE and UNCL on this site, but it's in French. I used http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ to translate since I don't know the language.

Lots of other great model reviews and scratch builds for Space 1999 here:

Really has me eying that Cheiftan tank I picked up to build one of the other ones.

I actually like the left one, the one that PE included in the gift set. (I also like the 'Eagle-beak' one. The 'flatbed' one... eh, I guess it was an early, outdated version Alpha kept around for emergencies; it'll do in a pinch, but it's not much to look at!)

The Eagle beak version. Too bad it didn't get more screen time.

I do really like the flat top one myself, not one often built by 1999 modellers, but it has a lot more detail on that model than people think.

Shadopilot, your tank has interesting markings that I've not seen before. Did you put these on yourself?

Just checked out the French site, very interesting, I have not made such a direct comparison myself. One thing I would comment on is that the PE tank in not on a centurion chassis. this is what the UNCL tank looks like on the Airfix centurion chassis, note the 4 small return wheels which is more like the Tamiya 1/25 chieftain tank arraignment. The wheel hubs are made with "google eyes". To answer the threads title my favorite is of course this one.
