Thumbs up New Doctor Who: The Matt Smith Era

Well, the Doctor Who panel at San Diego Comic Con got off to an unbelievable start yesterday. They showed the teaser trailer for the 2 part finale of David Tennant's reign as the eleventh Doctor, "The End of Time."

SPOILERS....

For those of you who already don't know, John Simm is back as the Master. Rumors were true. Murray Gold apparently broke down and sobbed while watching the second episode claimed Russell T. Davies. The teaser looked intense, with Timothy Dalton's voice over chillingly claiming this is how "the planet Earth" finally came to an end and Simm's Master revealing himself with newly bleached hair. And Tennant's Doctor looked utterly helpless to stop the chaos...
Damn good stuff!

Yes every time I watch Doctor Who now I cry too, but I usually think, this can't get any worse can it?

Murray Gold probably 'sobbed' because he'd seen all this in the previous series finales. I know how he feels. The term 'running on empty' springs to mind - IMO of course.

Blimey, is Dr Who still running? I thought it ended in 1981?...

Still running strong here in the states, but the Scifi channel can't even line up the episodes with each other, so those "continued" plots get lost in a hurry!

Sack the lighting crew!

I pray it's better than 'The Stolen Earth'/'Journey's End'. I'm more kindly disposed towards 'new Who' than many people on here, but even I felt last year's finale was, er, ill-advised. It was like going to a casino buffet and loading up a plate with everything on offer: just too much, a tasteless mess of cheap & nasty fare that left one feeling sick afterwards.

Anyone want to take a bet that Rose shows up... again?

I hope Wilf Mott finally gets a go in the TARDIS!

It has been reported that Billie Piper was seen on set but no pictures have emerged as yet (as far as I am aware) What do you think of the new Tardis exterior - very 60's retro

Please, no...

I thought it was Doctor Who not Groundhog Day.

I quite like the look of the TARDIS, although the changes are very subtle - not that any designer in their right mind would mess around with it too much. All in all I'm looking forward to the Moffatt era.

If you've seen all the recent photos of Matt Smith in the role: is Alex Kingston playing Professor River Song again? 'Cos it looks like that's the 'wreck of the Byzantium'![highlight if you want to read probable 'spoilers']

Apparently Billie is in the last episode(s) as the Doctor meets her in her own past before she ever met the 9th Doctor Confused ?

Can't they just for once leave Billie Piper sodding well out of it. I'm just surprised they didn't have a spin off show for her. There have been far superior and less annoying companions than her. She really has approached Bonnie Langford levels of annoyance now.

At least she doesn't scream like Ms. Langford! That scream was enough to make your fillings fall out!

Just saw the Doctor Who Part 1 of 2 'The End of Time' on BBC TV this evening.

That was a truly great line by the Master, when, after having turned everyone on Earth into versions of himself, he states that there is no longer a Human Race, just a Master Race.

Anyone else watch it and what did they think ?

It was better than the 'Cyberking' rubbish that we had last year but I won't be sad to see the end of Russell T 'Fanboy' Davies tenure.
Last year, he reworked 'Transformers', this year, Harry Potter (Voldemort Resurrection), StarGate SG1 - at least, that was my first reaction to the 'Resurrection Gate', and Spiderman 3 (evil spidey leaping around)
At least it wasn't the Daleks and Cybermen this time round

Just like the "Odd-numbered Star Trek films are cr*p" rule of thumb, the same holds true of Dr Who specials.
