From the IPMS web site

Quote:
October 17th ~ Glasgow Open Model Show and Competition to be held at the Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena, Argyle Street, Glasgow G3 8AW. This is the seventh year at the present venue, next to the Glasgow Transport Museum which is free entry, lots of 1:1 exhibits. There will be a 42 class open competition and more than a dozen traders and twenty club and SIG displays, including MAFVA Scotland. Catering will be available from the Transport Museum cafeteria which is open all day. Show open from 10.00am until 4.00pm. Admission is 3.00 (Adults), 1.50 (Children and Senior Citizens. Family ticket is available for 7.00 and will admit two adults and two children.
Anyone going there, the Transport Museum is well worth a look, and the Kelvingrove museum (also free) is across the road.

Jade Falcon - so right. Transport Museum is really good...especially if you like model ship (big ones).

And if you go to the cafe try the macaroni cheese......just like mama used to make.

Is the exhibition for sci-fi stuff as well?.

I've only been a couple of times and I get the impression that Sci-Fi isn't really represented that well, its mainly armour, aircraft and ships.

I'm hoping to be at the Glasgow show (assuming Edinburgh IPMS get a table), and barring any unforeseen accidents will definitaly be at Telford.

I hate the IPMS.

Narrow minded, elitist rivet counters with no imagination. All on the look out for the next 'FAD' finishing technique (hardly any of them can build anything without it being in kit form), cos someone won a little tin cup!

Oh look a spaceship - there's no dirt in space ha-ha!
IPMS - FOAD!

There's an older guy at our model club who does 1/35th scale armour and he took in a Sherman tank in Korean campaign colours and was told by one of these rivet colours that the particular shade of green he was using wasn't used in Korea, when he argued the point he was asked "How would he know".

Answer...."Because I was bloody there".

I display my model layout at model railway exhibitons, I love when a rivet counter says to you "it wasnt like that" or "that would never happen" etc, then you pull out a photograph and say there you are
I am a rivet counter, but only for my own stuff and without the attitude of some of them I like to think

One perfect example is German uniforms from WWII. If you take in all the variables, like year of manufacture, dye batches, place of manufacture etc, one type can come in shades ranging from a mid grey to a grey-green. There is very rarely one particular correct colour, though there is the 'Federal Standard' paint ranges. Same with vehicles where there were experimental modifications and repairs done 'in the field/in the shed' etc.

That's more or less the same conclusion I drew. I was a member for a year but soon tired of all the petty bickering in 'The Magazine'

I'd had enough of that in Trek Fandom (yes, I was actually involved - I was membership Secretary of a kent-based Trek (later General SF including Anderson and other series) Club - since folded

I'm a member of my local club (only IPMS affiliated because of insurance at shows), but I'm not a member of the IPMS and have no intention of ever being one.
The IPMS recruitment officer once invited non-members to write to him and explain why they didn't want to join. So I wrote a fairly balanced essay as to why I wouldn't. Why I thought the IPMS didn't help the hobby and how until they stopped, took a good look around and changed accordingly I had no wish to be a member.
I didn't get a reply for a while and when I did, it was a diatribe about 'real Hobbyists', followed by a fairly robust personal attack.
Sort of made my point for me really.

The IPMS is a Dinosaur, wallowing about thinking it still has some sort of clout.
Unfortunately for them. The majority of hobbyists -whatever subject they model- are not members and have no wish to be.
