I still remember being absolutely enthralled as a child, with that first episode -what an action packed tense opening episode to a new Show.

And who can forget Victor's classic line - " People are dying up here, John " ?

Is September 13, Happy Breakaway Day everybody!

I am proposing by 12:00 PM (GMT), celebrate 10 years of Breakaway day and hit new record for most users ever online in the forum (most users ever online was 200, 08-09-2007 at 11:40 AM).

You agree?

Each one of us can see which the column (hour) for your country (12:00 PM (GMT) corresponds to column “0” in the World Time Zone Map), taking into attention whether, or not, it is summer time (Daylight Saving Time)

"Breakaway" setting September 13, 1999 seemed so far , far away....
I remember vividly at 11 years old in 1975 watching that first episode mere days before my 12th birthday that September 1975.

10 YEARS a long time to be floating about in space. I wonder if moo base would have lasted that long in the real world. Certainly not blessed with unlimited resources and one would have to wonder what toll age would be taking on the Alphans, and whether they'd opted for children or simply decided to let things run down and die out.

I'm passing along a message from Zienia Merton, who sends her best wishes to everyone, and says:

"Granny Sahn says Benes & Chips & Pizza for everyone on this momentous 10th Anniversary of Breakaway!"

FYI - Prentis Hancock has also posted Breakaway Day well wishes on his Facebook page.

Ten years. Wow, where does the time fly? Not much time to write today; but I wanted to put in a few words.

Time has flown; ten years before that, in 1989, I hadn't seen more than parts of one or two episodes since 1977, barely remembered any of the details, owned only one merchandise item (one of the comics), and had no idea there was a fandom.

Still, even then, I could remember how great the series was, even though I am pretty sure I had missed the "Breakaway" episode itself back then.

Wow, was I impressed when I finally saw that episode in 1992. Even then, seven years still seemed pretty far into the future, just in simple measure of time since it was perfectly clear we weren't going to be back on the Moon, much less with a base, by 1999. That didn't matter. It was still a great and chilling episode to watch. To this day, watching the Breakaway sequence itself, with the tension in the characters, turning frantic, as that drumbeat starts and continues as the false dawn starts, sends chills down my spine every time.

It was the start of a wonderful viewing experience seeing all 48 episodes, starting to write, and a couple years later, discovering fandom!

This also reminds me that this is the 10th anniversary of the large Breakaway Convention. I've reorganized my page remembering the event, also adding some material I inexplicably appear to have missed posting back then.

Have a great day, everyone!

No, same series, I believe.

There were indeed numerous cow references in Space 1999 -

The Rules of Moo-ton
An udder Time, An udder Place
Ring Around The Moo
The Testament of Ar-cow-dia
One Moo-ment of Humanity
Catacombs of The Moo
The Im-moo-nity Syndrome.

I was 8 when Breakaway first aired. Back then the actual date of Sept 13th 1999 seemed a lifetime away.

And then the actual date happened and there were conventions celebrating it etc. That literally seems like just a year or two ago... but it's now been a decade.

The mind boggles!

Happy Breakaway to all! 10 years since or 90 years until, depending on what storyline you like best!

Ten years... sheesh! Being obsessed with the show (and Eagles) from the first showings on TV I remember organising a Space: 1999 marathon at my place on Sept. 13th 1999. To my eternal regret only two of my friends turned up and they couldn't make it even halfway through 'Breakaway' before giving up as it was 'too slow and dull'. Truth be told I'm still gutted (and annoyed) about that, but life's too short...

So yesterday I had my daughter and her boyfriend round and they happily watched (and appeared to genuinely enjoy) 'Breakaway' and 'Dragon's Domain', so now they 'get' my collection of Eagles etc., and seem quite keen on watching more episodes! Hurrah!
