Default BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER

Good news - Buffy The Vampire Slayer is being repeated again from the beginning, on the sci fi channel starting Monday 5th October, so hopefully a whole new generation will become fans.

I never watched it when it first aired (around 12 years ago now !) but recently purchased on ebay all 7 seasons complete on video for just 5 !!! - and have enjoyed watching them from the beginning with my teenage son.

Such a wonderful programme - Sarah Michelle Gellar is perfect for the role of Buffy and each episode contains a clever mix of adventure / horror / and a liberal dash of humour.

Any other fans out there and if so, which was the best season in your opinion ?

I managed to accidentally catch it from the beginning. Great writing. I personally liked the second season the best. For some reason quite a few of my other Buffy friends decided recently to watch the DVDs again.

A superb show - really well written.
I shall enjoy watching a few episodes along the way.

I'm half way through the second season at present - loved the episode 'Ted' featuring Buffy's mum's boyfriend who turns out to be a robot, and that classic line "Would you like some gravy with that ?"

Long time fan of Buffy and later Angel....I was very sad when they went off the air.

I liked Buffy, but i think it was aimed at a younger audience than Angel, which i love (am currently re-watching my DVD boxsets, just finished Season 4). Also, Buffy had this annoying habit of having fights where every punch was interjected with a pithy retort/reply which i found annoying. I may get it on DVD one day, but Angel was a must purchase.

Have to disagree. I thoroughly enjoy the humour blended in with the horror and fighting. eg Season 1 episode 1 or 2 - Buffys retort to one of the badly dressed vampires - "You look like De-barge"

Perhaps it was just Joss paying homage to Spider-Man?

I liked the fact that it wasn't formulaic. I was watching Trek Voyager at the same time and I did not like the writing. The endings were too predictable. You knew none of the main characters would die so if their life was threatened there was not as much concern.

With Buffy you never knew if any of the main characters were safe. I remember the episode where Cordelia fell and had the metal bar through her midsection. She was saying how cold she was and how things were getting dark. The next scene was a cemetery where they were burying someone and you were sure she was dead but it was Joss faking you out.

Yes - I agree. And it wasn't always vampires in every episode - there were many other nasties as well - packs of hyenas, worst fears becoming real, robots, etc etc - and a superb rollercoaster of emotions in every episode - alternating between horror / humour / romance / etc.
