I spy many parts of the Airfix Hawk...

That is a really great miniature, another of the rag tag fleet gets the star treatment. I also know several folks (myself included) that would love to add this to their own fleets....

The images of terrific, please offer thanks to the Mark and Jon, they are gentlemen both.

You will also need......

Airfix Saturn V, Tamiya 232 8rad, M3 Grant, Flakpanzer Gepard,
Fujimi F-15, Revell F-15.

There is also a rare Japanese Robot kit used as the nose section main shape. Last time one came up on evil-bay it was $300!!!!!!!
Best Scratchbuild that bit.

This is the smaller version converted from one of the Rag-Tag fleet (used for the hanger sequence). But there was a 5ft version built, that gets most of the major screen time.
This model is no longer in existence

Thanks for posting the kit list Hector,

I am curious as to the 5 foot reference too, was this a complete model or a section? Any reference is very helpful.

Hi JD,

That site is outstanding, so many models made every one of them an iconic design. :D

The quality is not from the digital age so bear this in mind if you go look (and I suggest you do) but reference for these props is always welcome.

You forgot the Buck Rogers Thunderfighter wings, engine nacells from an airliner or B-25.
The original model used three Revell 1/32 F-15 kits from the movie
Concord '79. I spent a snowy afternoon this past winter picking this model apart.

Here is the model I picked apart.

http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=13924

I don't know what these are, Tamiya 232 8rad, M3 Grant, Flakpanzer Gepard,
I'm guessing racing cars or battle tanks or both.

The wings were enlarged for this T.V. model.

I have started this model in paper. I have not gotten very far into it.

The original model was use in the T.V. show Battlestar Galactica in the intro twice, It is the very first model spaceship on screen,(Before you see the Battlestar Galactica)and seen again after Loren Green's introduction.

Pick a T.V. show after the T.V. movie(still can be seen there too)

This model was refitted(recycled) for the Eastern Alliance Destroyer.

I would love to see this model recreated in paper or plastic.

My pic's of my suoer slow build.

I really want the original Rag-Tag version.
But getting Hawk/Lindberg San-fransisco trams here in the U.K is a pain.

The original Rag Tag ship actually uses 1 Fujimi 1/48th F-15. Two cut down Revell 1/48th F-15's were used to turn it into the Alliance cruiser.
Wings aren't really an issue if you don't want the EAC.
The hawk and robot part can be fabricated pretty easily. But the Tram parts are more difficult. I thought about modifying a couple of Dapol 'Trolly-bus roofs' That might do the trick and save me £50 into the bargain!

Oh forgot: 'Atomic cannon' is now re-issued and available in the U.S.
Should be with us for 2012 with a bit of luck?

Hector,

Here is the web page to the original model maker of the Battlestar Galactica models, along with the Buck Rogers models and Airport '79.

http://www.universalhartland.com/index.shtml

I read some where that the filming model used the Revell 1/32 F-15 left over from the Airport '79 movie. Maybe it was the larger version they were making.
When I look at the model of the E.A. Destroyer in the link I provided, it looks like a 1/32 size model of the F-15. Three in fact.

Was the Fugmi 1/48 F-15 kit available in 1978? Japenese kits were not readily available in the U.S., Tamiya being the exception. Most of the model makers used Revell and Monogram kits being cheap and abundant.

Do you have any more facts to help shead some light on this model?

I haven't re-watched the intro you mention yet, but I wonder if that explains the screenshot I took a couple of weeks ago. I was watching "Experiment in Terra" when I noticed that the ship on Starbuck's screen wasn't the same one they were tracking. I'm assuming now that it's the original configuration from the rag-tag fleet before the refit.

What came up on screen usually looked like the pre-production paintings. I assume the designs changed aver time but the computer generated stuff took a while longer to do, so it kept the original look. It is most obvious when the Basestar is shown on a computer screen.

That's what I thought at first, but then I looked at the opening. The drawing on screen probably is still pre-production art, but it does look like the first ship you see in the opening. Sorry for the blurry youtube screencap.

Original episode

Thats the one!
Watch the original episode "Story of a Star Saga". When Apollo searches his computer for the Cylon freighter on his Viper's on-board computer. That was the original configuration of the E.A. Star Destroyer. It's the first ship that appears on the screen. It's within the first 10 minutes and where Apollo and his brother are checking the old moon Simtar.

Are we having fun yet?

I rather like that original design (though the destroyer redress is cool, too). Thanks, JD, for posting that nice, clear view. I've always found the Rag Tag Fleet kitbashes to be interesting.

I agree wholeheartedly with CR, Thanks JD! where did you find that photo? Are there others of that ship, and/or the rest of the fleet?

Definitely the 1/48th Fujimi F-15 kit, not the Revell 1/32nd. As this was also used for the Shuttle Canaris also from BG rag tag fleet.

My Fujimi kits are dated 1976.

Please post a pic of your 1976 Fujimi F-15 kit. The bottom side.

Could you please explain you post from yesterday, getting "some stuff" in the UK is a pain.

This is needed too.........

I have the Tamiya Yardley McLaren 1/18, which is the same car, different size .

Careful, Steve... you don't want to get a rep as a pic tease...

LOL Trouble was the Forum was so slow last night I could only access thru the Facebook link so I didn't post too much in case it all went walkies..........

I think what Hector means is there are lot's of donor kit's eg Linberg etc which have never appeared over here in significant quantities (large bandai tanks......) either new or on the second hand market so we rely on certain well known inter web auction sites...

Anyone be willing to make an Eastern Alliance Destroyer as a kit? Perhaps as an exclusive for the membership if there's sufficient interst of course? I have studio scale castings of the Buck Rogers Thunderfighter if needed.

If you don't want studio scale-fantastic Plastic have just released her as a kit.
