LastBattlestar's studio scale Galactica

Thanks to steve36uk for the heads up at R.I. on this forum!

Well, where do I begin on this project. For starters, please check out this movie. It condenses a near-12 year build into eight minutes!

That has to be one of the (if not THE) most impressive builds I've ever seen. I'm in awe........

Guys, thank you to you all for the comments, but from what I've seen on this site, you blokes ain't too shabby at the model bench at all..

A Battlestar is a tough project to be sure (and there are newer, FAR better builds going on out there), but I reckon it's peanuts compared to a 44 inch Eagle build. All that brass framework, intricate paint and decal work, hand fabricated clamps, landing gear....that's what I consider a skillful build!

But I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It was great to revisit all those decade+ old pics (actual photos on paper!) and see how she has progressed. The good news is that as we speak, 320 extra resin greeblies are on their way from Custom Replicas in Hollywood. Yeah, thousands of parts already on the model and I still have to glue on another 300. Then I have to complete the landing bay interiors as I'm not doing the backlit hangar matte painting, rear bay cones, lighting systems, tons of butyrate wire pipework, seam filling, plus a few non-standard surprise extras I have planned for the old girl. Heck friends of mine have children younger than this model!

Cheers, Mike

Hi Mike,

Nice to see you over on the Dark Side!

Hector

Indeed Hector, I figured you'd be hanging around here.:p Hey, you owe me more pics of that 'little' build you have going on there yourself! I'm hoping to freestyle kitbash and detail one of those myself once the Galactica is done. You really inspired me with that build.

Indeed I do Mike, Indeed I do.

R.I is the only forum I've posted that baby on.
These guys are sponsored by my Publisher so they will know all about here sooner or later.

Thanks BR, glad you enjoyed the vid. It was a lot of fun putting together. In fact, I have another one planned for my B wing scratchbuild. Stay tuned.:)

Please keep them coming MIke :)

I have a set of Galactica plans on the way from Charles, but I am so sorry to say that after lots of thinking and measuring, then measuring again,
and again, I just don't have the room for the full scale model :(
So it is with a very sad heart I will have to build the half scale version. This obviously will never be an exact "detail" replica
but I do hope to keep it as close to the original where possible by using smaller kits and even trying the Alex Dumas shrinking technique for some of the detail that stands out.
I'm sure it will be the end of the year (beginning of next year) before I start it.

I still want the big one tho

Incredible work! You guyz must be about "blind" by now!
I'd want to be hiding little bitty Cylons all over it, like a "Where's Waldo" kinda thing!
Two thumbs up!!!

It's the same here-oh for a larger place-however don't have too heavy a heart -even at 3' long it's still a big bugger-and a hell of a lot cheaper!!!!!!!
The Atlantia's calling.........

It surely is a BIG model. Over 6 feet long, but the bugger is damn W I D E too, roughly proportionate to an Eagle I'd imagine. Think of it as taking up more space than a coffin. Don't let the space issue put you off building your dream model; currently I don't have any room but on the bench to put this model. We're hoping to build a house in 12 months to house the Galactica- most people would do it the other way round, but that's how I roll. Gotta keep my priorities right.:D

Rab, a 3 footer would still be a very big model plus it would enable you complete freedom to detail, something I dream of. If you want it: build it!

I6, yeah, I love hidden jokes on models too. Say, one of you build me a couple of 1:960 Eagles (at least one Eagle 3 please) and I'll park them in the Galactica's landing bays!

Which leads to the question what scale are the eagles in the AMT Alpha kit-too small for the 76" Big G,but against the 36" version........hmmm......
