LOOK IN COMICS / ANNUALS

SPACE 1899

Alphans
Following on from the thread regarding Carlton Comics on disk, I was wondering if anyone has been able to acquire e-book versions of all the various Space 1999 comic strips that appeared in the Look In Comics and Annuals (I have never seen these versions for sale, although I do have all the 15 Carlton comics on a disk).

I was reading about these comic strips on the catacombs website and it seems that they appeared over a large number of issues of the Look In Comic and annual.

Or perhaps the only way to acquire these is to track down all the issues themselves (I notice that various comics appear on ebay from time to time).

Has anyone followed this route, and if so, are certain issues rarer / harder to obtain than others ?

Any feedback most welcome :)

I think the issues can be quite difficult and I've noticed a number of traders trying to corner the market wanting high prices. I've been after the two issues with the Lancaster on the cover and the Saturn V. The issues with Space:1999 featured on the cover seem to be rarer though.

Saying that, the covers featuring the first season (the purple cover with Space:1999's debut) and the blue cover with the introduction of Season 2 seem to be the rarest.

According to the catacombs website, the UK weekly comic Look In ran a 2 page strip of Space 1999 for 81 issues.

Does anyone have the whole collection by any chance, and how did the stories compare with the stories in the Charlton comics ?

Wow - thank you so much for posting - that is an amazing link - listing all the stories and relevant issues :)

Am I correct in assuming that when I click on any of the issue numbers, the comic strip pages that then display on the screen are the actual complete strips from that issue ?

If so, I think I'll buy a supply of cartridge ink, and get busy on the printer, printing them all out

The Space 1999 Annuals were posted in another thread, really cool since I only had two of these years ago. Many other posts there so check it out, cheers to Slinky: http://www.eagletransporter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7946&page=3

What I always found funny about the third annual cover shown there is that was the first Year 2 annual, yet in addition to Koenig, it looks like Paul Morrow is on the cover. I was always struck with how impressive that particular cover was.

Thanks for posting the covers. I remember when I was a small kid, an annual was my main Christmas present, and I remember being pleased with such a present.

How times change - kids of today want laptop computers for Christmas

Since I only have a couple of issues, I can't really run comparison. However, this might help you
http://www.lookinarchive.com/homepages/space1999/space1999_picturestripindex.html

Trying to collect all 81 hardcopy versions of Look-In that featured the Space 1999 2 page comic strip would be a mammoth task, so in the meantime I have been looking at the above 'excellent' link tonight and have saved to disk all the pages for Adventure 1, 2, 3, 11 and 12 (all complete) and can now easily view them on 'Picture Manager' and I might print them out to make up folders, to go with my Charlton comic folders.

I notice that some adventures do not show the relevant issue numbers as highlighted and so are not available as viewable pages.

Does anyone know if the index page gets updated / changed in rotation as the collecting bug in me is keen to get hold of the other adventures

The Black and white artwork is quite nice, it almost reminds me of the quality of some of DC Thompsons 'Starblazer' sci fi artwork.
