My gigantic Discovery

Here is a model of the Discovery I bought on eBay about 5 years ago:

That's a PE 12" Eagle CM for scale. So no, I guess it really isn't that gigantic of a model. It looks like the original model and molds were probably quite good -- but this example is just awful. The resin quality is terrible and the spine is a mess. I may scratch build a spine someday and then use the CM and rear section, which are decent.

I got that one too. It is 1/550 scale. And I bought it from Comet some years ago. I then had a project to make a scratchbuild one in 1/110 scale, but never finished it. And now after seeing the timeslip discovery, I am sure that I will bin all my efforts... :(

That'll be this one then...shown alongside the Timeslip Discovery CM.

I've got a note on the base of mine saying I built it in 1991...a long time ago...

This original one has white metal storage pods, steel spine and resin front / back sections.

I too had one of those Discovery models, ahhh I remember it well. I sold my fully finished model at Memorabilia to pay for the new larger just released, (at the time) Planet X Discovery and Leonov kits.

Dang, that looks really nice. And just the right size for me. Perhaps the one I bought on eBay is a recast? Anybody have one of these to sell that isn't complete crap like mine?

Hadn't thought of it like that...

Just noticed the small Discovery was missing one of the small dishes which had broken off...just fixed it on again. Not bad this being the only damage in 16 years and one house move...
