Pros and cons of the WARP Eagle kit?

Eaglelover

Yes, the resin used now is cold cure polyurethane resin....good stuff.

How do you know if you order one you will get the updated resin over the old stuff, the first three I bought all had the brittle stuff. I would consider getting another If I knew for sure the quality of the resin and metal (flash too thick) was better. BTW it took me two Warp kits and parts from the MPC Eagle to make one descent ship.

Thanks

Which would be recommended in the case of the Replicas Unlimited 23" or the Warp 12"? I have several AMT that I need to work on, but I would want to pick up something different.

The Warp kit is a lot more accurate and I wouldn't hesitate to build several more. The PE 12" diecast was based on this kit.

The RU 23" is basically a kit version of the PE 23" and has a ton of inaccuracies which are really not practical to fix as they affect most of the parts in terms of basic proportions.

:O Bummer.... it is the only Eagle kit I have.

My Warp Eagle kit arrived today. I presume it has the better resin as it has a one piece main girder assembly and according to the instructions this is only with the later issue models (and allows me to advance to step two straight away).

I must admit I'm a bit shocked about the amount flash, especially on the metal bits, that is going to need cutting and cleaning away. What did other people use to do this as it looks like I'm going to get through a box load of new blades. Any recommendations for cleaning up the metal and resin? Or is it just a matter of hacking with knife blades and files and rubbing with fibreglass pens?

GZ.

With the resin parts, would a fine grade of sand paper work and with the metal, how about emery cloth and/or steel wool (0000) grade or something.

That's really the only disadvantage to this kit - there's a lot of flash clean up in the gaps between frame members. A new scalpel blade and some needle files will make a good start...I'm afraid it's just a bit of hard work to clean everything up. I would also recommend a flexible sanding stick to assist in removing the last bits and pieces followed by some wire wool.

Once done you'll have the makings of a beautiful little model.

I've noticed that the shelves are off, but in your estimation what parts are the worst offenders as far as proportions go?
At a glance it does not seem all that bad but as you've built the 44 I'd like your opinion, if you dont mind.

Frameworks are all wrong in overall shape and diameters of tube used & landing gear pods are completely wrong in all dimensions.

That's just from memory. I don't have one any more to compare with specifically, but I don't believe any part of it is actually spot on.

Thanks w8cmp. Guess I'll throw mine together anyway one day just to have a mid sized model. Really could not tell how far off it was just looking at the parts, but I have yet to build a 44 so I guess it would be hard for me to tell.
And I do mean yet.;)

Gents, the attached photos show you what you get in a Warp Eagle with the current issue. The parts are completely untouched and as you receive them in the kit before any clean up.

Thanks for posting that info w8cmp. In time I think I will have to order another one, the quality looks much improved and should make for a great build. Anybody got a direct link to the Warp Ebay site? Could'nt find here.

Thanks.
