Real-life inspiration for 2001's workpods?

Steve Gerard

Apologies if this has been posted before but it's new to me:

Yes, I see what you mean Paul Lloyd.

I am always amazed that back in the early 60's that spacecraft designs like these were made to look so utterly futuristic, that they still do not look one bit dated!

That particular thing looks like it would work as well underwater as in space! (A few years ago, I actually started something along those lines using the crew pod from a SeaQuest DSV model kit of the underwater transport... the spherical part just screamed '2001-style workpod' to me. It's amid my myriad of started-but-not-finished projects, of course.)

Welcome, Nyrath! I've been a fan of your site for a couple of years now, but it's been over a year since I last visited. Thanks for the link (I need reminders like that once in a while), and for the wonderful work that you do!

Captain Sci-Fi

I echo JD's comments, love the deep space craft, the space suit evolution designs and the 1950/60's Sci-Fi reference fro people like Asimov and Heinlien.

Well worth a good looksee session 10/10
