Recovery vehicle scratch build

barrie

Alphans
Hi everybody,
well lock down has made me get to grips with building some models I would not have built for a while and here is one of them a recovery vehicle from thunderbirds pit of peril. the model is a total scratch build apart from three bits from my spares box and two pieces of cable. The model is 18 inches long and 9 inches wide approx studio size I think. I enjoyed doing it very much and may do some more pod vehicles in the next month or so they are eye catching and look good. Please let me know what you think and be honest as this will help me to get more things right on my next builds.

keep safe and well,
regards Barrie ( the old guy )

Thanks Kevin,
I did enjoy the build as most of my models are quite large customer builds and take a long while to complete, this was one of those models that just brought itself together. I am going to try and build some other pod vehicles soon.

regards Barrie ( the old guy ) keep safe and well

The only thing that puts me off the pod vehicles is those damn Vickers Vigor wheels and tracks. Absolute nightmare if building from scratch (thought I'd lose my mind when I was sticking all those rivets on), so fair play Barrie is scratching those. Here's a few of the studio scale pod vehicles I've scratch built over the years, if any help.

Hell Dave what can I say you put my own build to shame, your builds are brilliant, and have given me some more inspiration to have ago at more pod vehicles. Here is my own attempt
at the mole, which I was lucky enough to sell to a Thunderbirds fan a couple of years ago.

regards Barrie ( the old I wish I could build that good guy )

Excellent work Barrie, love the hexagonal wheel nuts. My models certainly don't put yours to shame!

The Elevator Car was always my favourite pod vehicle (really inspired me as a kid). I've built a few over the years and thanks to this website, I was able to track down a lot of the previously unknown parts to build my latest one. Even now I'm still thinking of building another version!

Much like yourself Kevin, I love taking photos of the models 'in action' so to speak. Plenty of cement dust and compressed air make all the difference!

Meant to add - to make the Vickers Vigor-esq tracks have the right stance from the wheels, I use old car cam belts, which match up with the teeth on the back wheels.

What Can I say Dave,
its like looking at the original models, they are quite brilliant and I now have a traget to aim at to reach your standard, have you done a model of the Monobrake ?
I am trying to complete one at the moment, but good clear pictures or drawings are very hard to come by. Superb work ...

regards Barrie ( I wish I could build that good guy )

Many thanks Barrie. I haven't built a model of the Monobrake I'm afraid. Good luck with it!
