Well it's been a long time since there's been an update partly due to a house move and partly because I'm a slow builder!

Paul's now got somewhere to sit other than the end of a cocktail stick, the chassis is drilled ready for axles and the interior is painted ready for joining the top and bottom halves.

Hopefully it won't take this long again to get it finished off.

Top and bottom joined, axles and spacers in, primer on and a few small details added. The roof hoop is made from 0.3mm brass rod.

It is hard to believe that's 1/72 scale...

Thanks, when I'm struggling with tiny parts I can hardly see it's not quite so hard :(

So we're into the final primer ready for some base coat, fingers crossed it doesn't all go pear shaped at this stage!

Looking forward to seeing the painted version. What will you do for decals? I know the white striping is available but the SHADO lettering etc is going to be interesting...

Fortunately I have a set of Jbot decals... there seems to be difference of opinion over how big the Mobile was but the 1/87 decals seem to be just about the perfect size.

The blue base coat's going on tonight... I always start to get nervous at this stage!

Ok so I had an old Halfords spray can of Ford Arctic Blue hanging around in my paint stash.
The pressure had gone but for a small model like this I'd planned to decant it after a good shake and use the airbrush with a bit of additional thinning anyway... however don't adjust your sets, it's not your monitor colour it really is that green :O
I've never seen paint pigments shift like this before and I used to be a car painter back in a previous life, luckily I only put one coat on to see what it looked like when it dried out... guess a new tin of Arctic Blue will be need then :-/

Green ish

I have to say that - in the days before the internet and easy access to knowledge of what the exact paint shade really was - I repainted an old Dinky Mobile based on what I could see from the videos I had. And they always looked slightly greenish to me (maybe it was the reflections from the trees they always seemed to lurk under), so I used a silvery-green colour rattle can. I was very happy with it for years until I learnt the truth...

You're right there can be a huge difference between what's seen on screen and the actual colour of the prop used to film it. Set lighting and colour, media used to record on, screen type used to play back on all have an impact. On screen the Star Wars Tie Fighters look white or a very light grey rather than the slate blue/grey the props are painted... it's actually a bit of a dilemma, replicate the screen or prop version???
Anyway I have a new can of Arctic Blue on order so should be able to pick it up tomorrow fingers crossed it is actually blue this time :hmm:

Thanks Mike, that's very kind of you

Well while I'm waiting to collect the blue I thought I'd get the tracks painted... at least they came out the right colour.

Ahhh, now that's more like the colour I was expecting, got all the decals on too.

Clear coat, weathering, wheels and tracks next.

Will it have radio control motors?

Well maybe not this one  but you could probably cannibalise a Dragon 1/72 Micro X Tech tank for all the gear if you were feeling adventurous

Satin coat's on... didn't quite go as planned, instead of protecting the decals it cracked them slightly dohhhh!
Anyway as it's impossible to see with the naked eye I'll just put up with it and now the masking's off I can see Paul again... say hello Paul!
