SKYDIVER BUILD

Hi guys
Start of a new year , and ready to start my largest project to date .

Having just finshed the two Patterns before xmas of the SPC and MSV , both still waiting to be moulded , i wanted to have a couple projects for this year , that's been i my to build list a very large Skydiver and intercepter in scale with the Shado mobiles i built a few years ago .

Now i really like the idea of building a replica hero Large sky 1 , and building the diver section to fit , knowing that the large SKY 1 , never had a diver section built in scale , this seemed like a challenge now without going into, to much detail the pattern of sky 1 and diver section will be built using my trusted method of side profile first and building up the formers to create the main shape of the craft .

The large SKY 1 is 24 inches long , i have had my drawing s blow up to this scale adding on the diver section , and its big around 7 ft .

so here we go , I,m ahead of the build ,as i have been taking lots of photos as ive been working on the project , a teaser photo to start of

The Intecepter i,m still collecting ref drawings, but any help of a good side profile , nose on rear view and plan view welcomed
Best
Pete

Hey Pete.

Not one to nit pick but if your Sky 1 is 24 inches long, shouldnt your Diver section be 4 feet long give or take. So in total a 6 foot Skydiver :)

Hi mamas

Could well be 6 ft I have,t
Measured the whole length

I have done away with the
Original sky 1 and added the hero
Model to the diver

The exact measurements

Are the whole skydiver
75 inches or 190cm or 6ft 3 inches
Long

Sky 1 24 and a half inches long or 61.8
Cm

Looking at the original
Model with tape length

I think my sky 1 is slightly
Larger.as the photo ref
Does not show where the tape
Is held from
For entire length

Again according to the length
Of original
Ref on forum
Sky 1 is under 24 inches long

But it's big

Hi Yeah Guys

Here's a new batch of photo's of the Skydiver build .

As you can see the main body of SkY 1 is taking shape , its one of those models that you really have to work though to see the results .

Unlike Stingray , or Thunderbird 2 that are stunning curved shapes SKY1 is really a triangler box with a flat top ,its only when you start to add on the cockpit , and side blisters wings etc that you think hold on this is some mean craft .

enjoy

I agree, it is one mean looking craft. I love holding it and wizzing it around the room, Bit different when you attach it to the Diver tho, Bit heavy that. :)

Hi guys
Here's a new batch of photo's , as you can see SKY1 is really starting to take shape.

The canopy area photo shows a series of ribs forming the contours of the canopy, while i was doing this , i couldn't help but think , close up it kinda reminds me of the Lancaster bomber , the way the canopy sits very close to the edge of the main body.

the rear top box section ready to take the tail fin, is also built up , i'll final sand when all the main parts are built .

more photo's soon .

One mean looking craft indeed.....

You can never see too many Sky 1s for my liking - another truly unique Anderson vehicle. Always interesting to see another one taking shape - you must have plenty of patience to sand and fill and sand and fill and.....

Keep us posted and thanks for the pictures.

Kindest regards

Hi guys

Here you go Sky 1 looking more like the attack fighter plane with all love .

As you know i,m alittle ahead of the build than these photos show.

In this bunch of goodies, you will see the tail finn taking shape , it still needs a little work at the top edge , it needs to be a little more sharper, also the side blisters , and cockpit have been shaped , again i'll re define
these shapes once all the main parts are built .

more photo's soon

We have lift off.
Hi guys

Here's a look at the Skydiver update, Sky 1 has wings , also started work on the front section , ref flute like grooves thing ? as you can see the grooves are plastic that are postioned around the area where the nose cone attach's and the area inbetween gets filled out and shaped to main body .

the wings are mdf , shaped and filled with p38 , i still need to finsh sand these , but she's looking the part now.

the main body of sky 1 when finshed sanded , will be moulded , so the wing s will be in the mould , and no need to glue them on .

The rocket tubes are temp attached to give the angle of the wing .
more pic's soon

Hi Guys

Its been a while since i lasted posted any photo's of the Skydiver build , and seeing Mamas Skydiver , Fantastic build has given me the big push to start the Diver section on my verison .

I'll start with the Adercon event , a Fantastic week end full of great people, great models well attended .what more could you ask for .
Great to catch up with some really good freinds i have made , Rob Carson , David Sissons , Steve who now owns one of Two Thundebird 2 i built with Seperate pods , that had been filmed ,for a dvd coming out soon , with the Rolling road , and sky back drop, all the Eagle Gang .

Old mates Mamas again great work work on his Skydiver, and anyone else i missed out .

Back to my Skydiver

These photo's show the back plate that once all the detail is in place ,get s moulded , then will be glued in place on the glass fibre body , once moulded ./

I have started the Diver section i,m around 1 wk into it and have cut out the shape and started forming the ribs etc .

Photo's soon

Hi guys
Here are a couple photo's i took last week , of the cutout MDF outline of the diver section .

The main hull is built up in floors ,each level to the drawing specs.

inbetween the formers are cut out of mdf and postioned and glued , to give the contours of each section .

The large SKY 1 comparing with the original SKY 1 that was fitted to the 6 ft Diver seems to be a little taller in body height , now as there was never a Diver section built for the large 24 inch SKY 1 when to Tail end of SKY1 and the Bow of the diver meet up , there is a little Miss match , so, the bow front lower bottom edge has been re contoured to mate up with the Bottom edge of my SKY 1

As i'm a week in front of these photo's the hull has moved on alot , and next updates will show how the diver is taking shape.

Theres around a couple of more wks left on the diver , i still have to fill in the gaps , blocks of foam , balsa sheet etc will be used on this job , and then p38 car filler to finsh of the outer surface , before i can add all the vent and
raised detail , etc i want to keep the main hull as smooth as possible , as to make better moulds

more updates soon
best
Pete

No
Probs glad you like the photo's

Today has been pretty wet so today
I started to skim the model diver section

First a piece of balsa sheet cut into the bulk
Head s and tack glued, then p38
Over the top and sand back to the formers.

I'll take some more photo's
Over the weekend and post some more
Of the previous photos I've taken

I worked in my workshop today

But the sanding I take the model outside
Inbetween downpours

The diver is really taking shape now
That the bulk heads are being filled in

Hi Guys

Here's a few goodies to get the bank holiday wk end of to a great start .

These photo's show the formers starting to make up the contours of the Diver section , also i added the front sloped bow piece where SKY 1 launches from.

The largest model i have built todate was the Seaview at 6 ft , most of this of course is a tube , the only other model i can compare the Diver section too at 4 ft ,is the Spindrift around the same in size around the widest part of the body , and built using the same method , so a few wks left in the main body .

more soon

Thanks guys for the great feed back .

I took these photo's just before i started to fill in the gaps between the formers .

Today i started on the conning tower , around the lower rear part, a great design , two curves blending into the main area of the tower .

I need to load up the next batch of photo's i have taken along this build, so the next update you'll start to see the model , being filled in and skimed .

Weather is perfect for sanding so ill be out there for a couple of hours tomorrow

best
Pete
