Hi Guys

Two years ago i started work on a scatch build SPV , with loads of projects on the go , i decided to finish one at a time , Macs car was the project i decided to finish first .

Now as i finished one of two macs cars , the second still in progress , i have restarted work again on the SPV , here are some photos of the SPV.

The main body is basically Built , and just now need s panels lines added , before moulding .

The chassis is constructed from plastic card , and because there not really a lot else apart from wheels and tracks to this build it should be a easy project to finish off .

I'll start marking in the panel lines this week , and either buy some rubber tyres or scatch and then mould them in rubber .

the main air intake 's are just plastic card that will be fast cast from rubber moulds .

best
Pete

Hi Guys

Well finally scribed all the panel lines into the pattern , rubber moulds will pick out the panel lines so no need to scrib in again , what a job a couple of times i added a line where there was not supposed to be one , looking at the drawings and adding to a 3d model is hard work , but worth it in the end , also the front bumper scribed the lines into this as well , i also very roughly painted the bumper , just to see how the finshed model would look like , very pleased .

next job a little tidying underneath before moulding can taqke place , wheels and hubs next , and those tank tracks ,

with this model i really want to r/c it so as with Macs car , i expect i'll build two , the SPV being much easier of the two designs.

one thing regarding the SPV with out going through all the dvds is there a episode where a missle or a gun raises out of the SPV ? i,m pretty sure there was one , if so i'll add this in as well .

Here a update of the SPV photos

Hi Guys

Well SPV is really moving along now , started to fit the wheels to the chassis.
Front wheels are connected to each other via a flat bar, , like on MACS CAR

but the connecting bar passes through the chassis so you dont see it ableing front wheels to steer .

the smaller wheels are fixed in place with brass bracketts because the axles are under the chassis line , see photo's of brass bracketts.

the main body is nearly finshed now getting it ready to be moulded , then once in glass fibre i can really go to town inside .

the tyres are rubber purchased from a RC aircraft shop i was very lucky with the sizes perfect match , around £ 30 a set, when you press down on the model it really feels like a real vech.

Looking very good Pete. As a matter of interest can you describe how you etched the panel lines over such complex curves ? What kind of blade did you use ?

seaview

Alphans
the panels are scribed in with a sciber
a sharpe pointed tip that you scribe
up againest a piece of thin plastic card
that will bend with the curves of the vech

at the other end of the scriber is a chisel
blade that can widern the scribed marks

if you need wider grooves cut in

Hi Guys

Its been a while since I last updated, here is what's been going on:

SPV has finally gone away to be moulded, I expect it back with in 3 weeks ?

I'm building two Macs cars, one will be static, the other R/C, I have started the second chassis and need to obtain a motor to drive the rear wheels, I was also thinking about getting drive to the catapiller tracks. The first chassis is built and wheels temp attached, both will have a interior's built into the drivers cabin. As soon as I get the castings back its will be full on build time ,

Other news

The working Macs car, The front end telescopic assembly and steering is finished and will be fitted into the main body soon. he swing wing mechanism's are next, it is taking a little longer as I am having to wait for the parts to be built when things are quite at my mate's workshop, when I fabricated parts for the static Macs car I had to cut and solder brass. Most of the Working parts on the R/C Macs car are steel and have to be machined.

Photos as and when.

Hi guys

Its been a while since i last updated , here is a new update.

SPV has been moulded and two casting are being dropped of here monday next week photos soon.

One chassis is fitted with R/c the other static but can be converted , as the bottom will be removeble too.

All the decals have been designed and printed to the drawing and cut out .

both chassis are fitted with right angle metal strips along the top edge and get fasterned down to the main body with small bolts ,holes that have been pre drilled into the metal strips , the nut heads will be countersunk into the main body and glued inplace .

Once i have the casting work starts by cutting out door area's and bulk heads inserted front and rear behind the driver , to allow the door to be refitted and able to open and shut , R/c if possible ? also great thought into
powering the rear tracks .

while i have been working on the chassis for both SPV's in between i finshed two Shado mobile's , one as the control mobile the other as Shado 2 very happy with the results on both , both to be R/C next stage .

Shado 2 will be up for sale
along with Macs car static version that i finshed some time ago

again photos soon , Kids broke up for there summer hols so model making now i expect wk ends , ? or if i have a spare couple of hours

Hi Guys

Well here you go, taken some photo's today of the two castings of the SPV
have already cleaned them up from flash seems , and filled the joins in the castings , one SPV has the air intakes fitted , this SPV from the photo at the rear you can just make out the gear box fitted in the chassis , the other can be r/c at a later point .

The top intake areas have been cut out and just need to filed now to the marking in the casting giving the correct shape , i need to make the intake casting still , they will be glued in from behind.

Because the casting come out of the mould in one piece , the moulds makes

up to a 7 piece mould , so some areas need to be worked on more than other ,s

one point is the main side vent indent areas , i just needed to here fill with p38 to fill in the mould seems , you can see in the photos , the yellow filler primmer , and grey in the other SPV , this of course will get rubbed down with wet and dry paper as i go along .

The door area's are next to be cut out and then cutting out bulk heads ,

ill keep yeah all posted as the SPVs are built , also i added some photos of the recent
Macs Car , and Shado mobile 2 and Shado control mobile , next to the SPV's

so you can get to see how big the models are enjoy

till next time

Pete

Talk about a kid in a sweet shop....

I would be happy with one SPV but now I have seen a pair together they do look very impressive. Are you planning to sell a finished model eventually Pete?

That certainly is a nice collection you have there, you'll need a bigger workshop soon. :D

Alphans
Hi yeah Bernie

Well your right mate , i need a Larger workshop , had a bit of a tidy up this morning , and took some more photos of the models i have patterned over the years , still finding bits that i need to finsh , like two Thunderbird 2 pods ,

I started these and ended up building models for buyers, so they got put back on the shelve.

One static SPV will be for sale , also Shado 2 finshed , and Macs car ,finshed .

A model cave is what i think of my workshop , at some stage ill take a photo
of all the models together as it would take me a whole morning setting up the models on display , you need to people just to carry the seaview , let a lone the two 44 inch Eagles out from underneath my work bench .

Thunderbird 2 the first model i ever built is displayed indoors , and that s never been photographed along with the other models .

post more photo soon of SPV , one photos of the SPV you can see Fireball junior the start of the pattern that will be after i have finshed the SPV,s

more photos soon

Hi Guys

Started work on the doors on the SPV yesterday , now came a cross a problem that i thought i,d see if anyone else has noticed .

The first episode the Mystrons , at the end of the episode the SPV driven by Captain Blue , the Door opens , and this is the Puppet set door way , there are 3 curves on the front edge basicaly the wheel arch is part of the door way , as the wheel arch does not curve over enough like on the main model, also the inner edge is curved at the top and then runs straight at the rear and than cuts out at the bottom .

Next scene the SPV has a smaller model and the door way is like most Dicky toys , and product ent, models the door way bottom edge is above the wheel arch .

Now i like the look of the puppet door , but to get it to look like the model and the puppet set at the same time , it means knicking some of the wheel
arch and having the door way bottom edge just under the line of the normal
door way .

the model will still look the same from the side when the door is closed , but
when opened will look like the puppet set .

build moving along photos soon

Hi Guys

Its been a while since i last updated on the SPV builds , here whats been going on .

Both castings had the door a'reas removed , the SPV that will be radio controled had the right and left door removed , and after looking at photo stills of the puppet size SPV , i built my doors the same expect i did not include the wheel arch segment, so just the two curves from the side intake area's , down and out to the start of the wheel arch, one of the doors that will be the static SPV the door is now fitted .

The open end of the vech a pattern was built and a layer of glass matting layerd ontop , to create a kinda shallow dish that has now been fitted to the vech, then there a middle section that the tank tracks lie either side of was then built , this is now ready for casting , the R/C version is waiting on the mech's
now to get the two doors to open by R/C ? depending on how long this will take , both SPV's i hope should be finshed shortly after all this has been worked out , photos soon
