Filmed around the same time as Space1999 and made at Bray studios. Lots of familiar faces.

It's surprising how many props get shared between the two shows : for example, Koenig's backpack in "Brian The Brain".

The whole thing seems to be on YouTube.

Does the theme tune drive you daft as well ? It sounds very "James Last Library music" to me, in comparison to, say, Barry Gray or John Williams, who have a definite scene-setting vibe.

The 'backpack' appears to simply be a large plastic tray from a draining board, that holds pots & cutlery after they have been washed!
Then theres the pilots chairs that are covered in bubble-wrap!
A quick and cheap production ........ I love it!

Love in the first episode where the radio astronomer remarks "Incredible! It's already approaching Jupiter" and yet his radar monitor seems to be showing Korea and Japan.

The guns are made from squirt bottles. The model spaceship that uses the freeze ray has a piece of an airfix lunar module stuck to the bottom of it.

Hello All!
Adam here in Houston, Texas U.S.A.. Concerning the Star Maidens opening/closing themes that are too disco-esque to bear. I suggest you go look under catherine buljolds website, Click under video, and you find the actual theme in stereo (!) that was aired here in the U.S.A. in the late 1970's which can be heard on her site. (well the ending theme is identical to the beginning) It's slow pace gave the show a much more serious spacey enjoyable "feel", it sounded a lot like 10 cc's rock group song "I'm not in love" -anyone remember that? With mourning voices in the background sounding like a priory is that the right spelling? Which I think, makes up for a lot for the opening! The White bodied weapon or "PARAGUN" handle is actually a quickly sprayed white spray bottle handle, the barrel of the gun well, is well, I don't know, I have looked everywhere and match up what it might be to make and actual one: if any of you smart as heck Brits can figure it out and tell me let me know or put it on EAGLE TRANSPORTER. It has a white giant spark plug kind of look. As for me, I love the show, anything that has K.W.'S Hand on it is better than reality. Incidentally, I did, get one response from the great Keith Wilson, via email years back but he never wrote back again -broke my heart. He signed it K.W.. Also in Star Maidens is the same letraset made black/white buttons used in Space:1999 as well on the command center console. I wouldn't mind spending a day on the catwalks on the Medusan set -wouldn't you? To bad I couldn't go to California to Talk to judy Geeson on this show -i'd have a lot of questions I'd like to get answered!

On Healvis post # 1, at exactly 4:00 minutes,
and for the whole sequence you can see the
Shado Moonbase consoles in the background

The SHADO moonbase consoles appear a lot in "Blake's 7" as well. Gareth Thomas must have thought they were following him.

......and theres a music cd out too.
The series is great, from the opening flaming asteriod on a string, to the 'Stingray' like closing titles. Brilliant stuff!

It's clearly done on a VERY small budget - it appears to have been filmed in 16mm in comparison to ITC series, which went for full 35mm, and it's quite clear that the local Ford Dealer put a lot of money into it...

Star Maidens aka "Die Mädchen aus dem Weltraum"
That's German Coproduction with English Portman Productions
part financed by the German company "Werbung im Rundfunk"
filmed in 16mm for TV
after german information was total production cost around 650000 pond sterling.

some odd thing about Series:
the use of Germans names in English version and English names in German version.
like Planet name: Medusa in english or Medora in german
or Richard Smith in German and Rudi Schmidt in english

Next to German and English actors were also french actors like Pierre Brice,
the series was sell to french as "Les Filles du Ciel"
in Germany it was show in evening before program of ARD
and on ITV network in Great Britain

and Yes there is connection between Star Maidens and Space:1999.
there were one after the other in production and Star Maidens reused allot of,
various props, sets, and even sound effects from Space: 1999.
even a pieces of SFX of Moon moving was use in Star Maidens.
Actress Lisa Harrow and Judy Geeson went from Space:1999, direct to play in Star Maidens
