Studio Scale ANH Escape Pod

Thanks mate thats a big compliment coming from you.
Ive been trying to figure out the best way to skin this.
Should I do it with a one piece wrap or in 2 or 3 sections.
Ive been playng with one piece I made from a stencil using a bucket I cut.
Its simply a PITA!!!!
I left extra width around the edges & the ends to compensate but it just has a freakin mind of its own....

Yeah, there's no way flat sheet is going to keep the curve at a join. I imagine using two layers of .020"/0.5mm, cutting it to shape but much longer than needed, then curving it by running it across a sharp edge a few times. You'd never get the ends to take the curve, but that's the excess you'd cut off.

Alternatively, if there's a vac-forming place nearby they'll probably have thin plastic on a roll, and it'll be all nice and pre-curved!

I also think (you can tell I've been making my EP in my head for a while now! :wtf:) that you'll need a bigger surface to glue the edges onto. Maybe 1/4" square rod glued to one side of the edge of those internal supports, and sanded to the right curve?

Thanks. Ive rolled up some 0.25 & 0.5mm sheets & will leave them for a day or so.
Back to that hatch part.
Ive done some research on the Honest John & have discovered that the truck used was a 'International' 5 Ton M289.
They also used a M386 later.
The truck we are looking for is a US Medium Cargo Truck.
The link attched shows a list of all US Cargo trucks & the front squared section is a distict characteristic of the US Cargo trucks.

http://www.olive-drab.com/od_mvg_vehicle_id_mtrucks.php

Italeri have a good selection of cargo trucks.
It could also be a Hevy Cargo Truck which there were few models ever used.
Most likely a 1/35 Medium Cargo Truck.

Found the cylinders under the Centurion part.
I knew I had seen them & had them.
They are from the Bandai 1/24 Jagdpanther.
Probably in the Panther G also.
Pictured is the sprue, then the part against a ruler & then 2 parts with the Centurion part on top.
:D

Spray foam would fill it.

Hey JD thought you would definately have a Bandai Panther. Can't build studio scale without those buggers.
Glad to find those parts though.
Healvis I used spray foam on my 32' Falcon & regretted it.
I do want to get some industrial foam from Smooth-On though.
I might get these milled & vaccuformed in 2 halves as an offering

Found this looking for trucks.
Its got the right front end.
Might have a stab in the dark & pick it ups

Ok Ive bought the kit.
There aren't many truck kits with this front end as far as Ive been able to see so far in 1/35.
Its got the squared guards at the front & does look very close to the Honest John.
The time frame should be right also.
It will take atleast 2 weeks to get to me.
Not expensive & if its a no go then i will just build it as I loved watching that show with my Grandma.
Please please may this be the one.
I will jump out of my skin if this is the donor...

Ive had trouble loading up pictures here lately so here they are now reduced to 0%...
So bare in mind this is a mock up build so she's a bit ruff in some places right now.
The curves are really difficult to get right & there are some areas I need to adjust but its coming along quite well & am happy with the progress.

Negative on the MASH truck.
I also found that its not remake from the RENWAL moulds.
Theres another tow truck thats was.
I am waiting for it to arrive.
Fingers crossed.

At present Im cleaning up my V1 build with car putty.
First time I used it & its great!
Should have got on that wagon ages ago.......

Im going to make the top dome by building rib frames & filling with putty then sand to shape.

Update coming soon.

Oh & Im in talks with my plastics supplier about getting these vaccuformed :brows:

Which brand are you using? I've always used the Bondo spot putty but I read that there was a better one out there...just can't remember the name.

I hope this means I get to hand money over to you sometime in the future! :)

Oh, and like I mentioned to you, if you still need help getting some parts cut out, lmk.

Ok it was a negative on the Revell MASH Truck & The Revell Military Tow Truck.
Joe I will check what Im using for the filler.
Its a 1 part filler & works exactly the same as the 2 part Bondo fillers.
Still working on finalising the dimensions.
Anyone good at figuring out the plating to get laser cut would be awsome?

Hi Jason,

I can take a look and map the parts if you can give me the dimensions. To be sure I suggest I send you a file you can print and wrap around the body to check the final dimensions.

Jase,
Hey man, can you tell me if the Movin On kit has the same rails as the 925? I keep missing out on kits because the rails don't look the same in pics. Just wondering.

The pod is looking really cool! Sending a PM.
