I think the alarm bells should be ringing on this one. The same seller also has a green eagle with a red freighter pod on sale too. It doesn't take a genius to work out what MAY have been done. I also find it a wee bit odd that the UFO interceptor is devoid of any of the decoration stickers. Despite this they have all attracted high bid prices. Crazy!

Ain't that the truth!

I've generally been happy about all my eBay purchases, bar one which was a piece of software, and that was my 'fault' for not reading all the links in the description. Ended up with 2 pirate cdr's for a tenner

But I have learnt from that! Oh yes... I always ask the seller questions before bidding if I'm not sure about something.

Generally if something looks too good to be true the chances are that it isn't.

Except for my copy of Shacklady and Morgan's "Spitfire - The History" which I got for 5.99 and is perfect, and a very big, much sought after book

The 'rare Dinky Eagle' is still at 103 with 8 hours to go

I know what you mean, English is such a wierd language sometimes

Is the meaning

"It is too good to be true" ?

or

"it isn't true" ?

Using both "Is" and "Isn't" at the end give the same meaning to the sentence depending on where in the sentence they are applied.

or something...

btw the 'rare Dinky Eagle' went for 165 after 8 bids....

From a Dinky expert collector:

==============

Thank you for your email. Having been collecting for the last 42 years I
have yet to come across an all white Eagle Transporter, although I have
seen a number of forgeries. This kind of thing is inevitable when toys
eventually reach the today's prices.

I am sure one of the big players in the toy world, ie Nick Powner would be
able to tell you if he had ever come across such a beast, personally I think
it is highly unlikely. Actually I know two people who have produced these
things, much to my disgust.

I'm issuing a challenge to those who continue to trade these so-called "rare" items:

Prove they existed.... otherwise, we stand firm (along with expert opinion) that they are fakes.

The only way to get an all white dinky eagle Transporter is to take a white Eagle freighter body and swap the middle section from a olive green eagle transporter, thus giving you an all white eagle transporter, just like the one in the space1999 programe,it looks fantastic!! This was never an issue that dinky made and is the only way that you can get an all white Dinky Eagle!....

Another comment from an expert collector:

=========================

"...he bought an "all white", in the box from his local shop, however he later found out the owner was swapping pods around to get rid of stock (this was about the time dinky was going into meltdown at the end of the seventies) this may have been quite common giving rise to the official all white issue myth..."

The best of the millions of rare white eagles that appear on ebay, was one I saw the other day. It consisted of a second series eagle with red vertical thrusters, sporting a first series pod with chrome vertical thrusters....clearly a factory issued super super rare version.

The all white ones do look good though

Eagle, I love the "White eagles don't exist" warning on the bottom of the decal adverts. On the same S99 listing on ebay uk there are a whole bunch of people bidding on a real roughy. They're already up to 13GBP! Talk about being ripped off...people never learn.

People this stupid deserve to lose their money. BTW if anyone wants a highly collectible ultra-ultra rare green eagle with red winch pod (out of box unfortunately but hey-ho), I think I can help. It's rarer than the all white version judging by the number of times it appears on eBay compared with the merely rare all white version.

Hmm, now this is interesting. It also seems to support prior testimony that these all-white Eagles were in fact given to visitors to the Dinky factory (although still not generally issued).

Very interesting.
Regardless of authenticity, it just reinforces what I've wondered since childhood: WHY didn't Dinky make all-white Eagles?! Man, they look gorgeous! (I know the reasons given... it's just a rhetorical question on my part.)

No less than 3 on ebay right now. One is sitting on a mirror and you can happily make the chromed boosters underneath... pity the Freighter is a second series one with red boosters. Somewhere in the world there's a green transporter missing his pod What is rather nice is that the pod has the amber rather than red glass.

It must be said along with CR that they look very cool all white, and I would certainly make one so if doing it up... but then you'd know I'd done it up if I was trying to sell it... I'd tell you.

There's also a super duper rare Blue transporter on ebay at present too, with a good number of bids. I like this colour very much over the green... but still.
