I also own the Konami, the Halcyon, and the Micro. Keep your eyes out for a Japanese knockoff Nostromo that pops up periodically with wheels underneath it. Its a silly thing, a smidge bigger then the Konami, but unmistakably the Nostromo.

In fact the same company also put out a Narcissus with mechanical grabber hands on the front of it.

That scratchbuild is an interesting creature. Care to share more details about it?

I picked the scratchbuild up on ebay and shortly afterwards spied the Halcyon one in the states. Had to have it as I don't have the time to accurize the scratchbuild, It's a fair effort mind, when I got it it had a strange paint finish-by hand and with lots of blue hues in it It's made from styrene sheet and is quite sturdy, however after re-spraying it a more screen accurate colour-I promptly sold it! To offset some of the cost of importing the Halcyon version.

Thanks for the info.

Yes I noticed that the proportions on the scratchbuild were a bit off, kind of like the other LARGE Nostromo garage kit that has been around for awhile. But the one you had seems to be roughly the same size as the halcyon were the large one was much larger as far as I recall. If that was a complete one off from scratch that was indeed an impressive effort.

+1 for pics of your refinery progress.

Have you seen this guys build?

BTW, heres a pic of that Japanese one with the wheels that I was talking about:

Many, many years ago, a friend of mine had purchased a large garage kit of the Nostromo. This would have been around the time of Alien 3, or just before, but certainly well after Aliens, and I know that the Halcyon kit came out a little while later (because I remember thinking about how much less money the Halcyon kit would have cost my friend had he waited a little bit longer to get a Nostromo!). The garage kit's master had obviously been scratchbuilt, but had a few recognisable (to me) greeblies added for detail, including a sensor array from a Bandai 'mecha-scale' Space Cruiser Yamato Earth Defense Force battle cruiser (or alternatively, the same-scale patrol cruiser). Funny how the kit-spotter in me spotted that, but I was (still am) a huge Yamato/Starblazers fan, and that line of kits was at the time a point of pride in my collection. Anyway, the part looks like an asterisk ( * ) with a central spike rising out of its middle, and is between 5-10mm in diameter.

In spite of the garage kit's impressive size and general good resemblence to the Nostromo, it wasn't the most accurate thing, but there was no mistaking what it was supposed to be. To my faded memory of the thing, it seemed a bit boxier than the actual studio model, though it was difficult to tell in its unassembled state, and my memory might likely be more inaccurate than the kit was! In all fairness, the kit was made prior to the availablility of the Internet and all its vast resources. I think the Special Edition Laser Disc set was out at the time, which might have had several model photos not normally seen elsewhere (been so long since I've looked through mine, I've forgotten just what was on it!), and perhaps the garage kit maker had used that for reference. Nice effort of a difficult-to-model item, anyway, in a time when there just wasn't that sort of thing out there.

Just an FYI post on my part, I guess. Thanks for reading...

Default Narcissus model

So I splashed 8.00 in an eBay direction and bought this as a study model, it's actually a really nice Halcyon kit of the Narcissus. It was built and painted well enough so I blew off the packaging peanuts set it up and shot these images.

I will have to follow SaturnApollo's lead and try fiddling with Photoshop to add more interesting backgrounds, but I'm still happy with the moodily lit shots at the end.

@ CR, this is probably the one you're referring to:

http://s460.photobucket.com/albums/q...ostromo%20kit/

There was a guy on here who was trying to correct one of those kits to be more accurate awhile ago but the threads have been moved around since then.
Its probably still here somewhere.

@ Captain Sci-Fi; you got that for a great price.
Thats an expensive kit in the first place and its been assembled very nicely.

Lucky guy.

Do you mean NeoUk's build here:

Now moved into the Aliens section so we can find it again when needed.

I think thats actually a halcyon that he's embellishing. That was an impressive project too. I sure hope he posts some more progress soon.

I think the one I saw may have been JT Parkers?

Here's a site with a fixed up large Nostromo:

http://alienthemovie.blogspot.com/20...ion-build.html

I dont know if thats the same guy, but its a shame that its closed now. They had some epic garage kits going on there.

I haven't checked in awhile but those Airlock and large Derelict models were being offered on Ebay last year.

Apparently the people on that site are affiliated with propsummit, maybe thats were I saw it.

Also never underestimate what a hardcore lego nerd can accomplish:

It seems JTParker is banned from another forum, no clue why

I moved his thread into the Aliens section anyway and I'll drop him an email to see if he wants to update this thread.

Thunderlips, that does indeed seem to be the kit I remember, right down to the colour of the resin. Thanks for sharing! I imagine that the sparseness of surface detail was for ease of casting; one would have to add lots of one's own greeblies and/or paint on a lot of panel lines to break up the kit's relative smoothness.

As for that Lego Nostromo, that's just epic. I love the creativity of Lego builders!

Lego's rule.

...like buses, and they just keep getting bigger!

Also check out the whole "Alien selections" thread. Some guy built the whole narcissus garage, airlock and all!
