Yes, these turn up fairly frequently on ebay and are usually very cheap-I know, I've bought several

Cheers

Coooool Lt. Dyson, good luck with that and post some pics when it's finished. Incidently, the hardest bit to find is the 'handle' I think these were made from drill 'support' handles that slotted in the side of the drill and were made from a black polished plastic/rubber. The modern versions don't have 'shaped' handles, my dad used to have one with his old Black & Decker, wish I'd kept it. Good luck finding one

Sorry for so long time no news here but i was busy with some other projects.

Ok news on this i finally got a brand new National PB3 Flash light.
Looking to got to dismantel it but has to be done.

Im now on collecting the bits and pieces needed for the antenna and the handle.

Decided to make the Handle by myself because couldnt find any, even not a bit looking, like the original one.

Ok thats all for today, when i have all i need i will making pics and post them, so that you can follow the process.
Till then wish me luck with this little project.

Just made a Picture of the pieces i now have

Black plastic rod for the handle some discs for the Antenna also a hollow rod that become the spacer parts a bigger piece of aluminim rod that fits into the Flash and a sheet of aluminum where i have to cut out the last big dish i still need.
The discs need now just a hole an than i need a Thread pole (hope thats right in english) to connect all pieces for the Antenna together.

The Handle will be turned and hopefully look like the ones used on the show.

For the Pictures and Screens on the prop i still thinking of how to do them, paint or make stickers (maybe even Decals) to put them on.

Wow, didn't even notice this posting as I've been away on a trip but picked up a Flashbulb for GBP 0.99 on eBay in mint condition. It was here when I arrived back and hoping to also build this very soon... seems an easy build as I was looking at the Catacombs page last night.

So I've started on my build for the Scanner Prop. About half-way there but here's the look so far:

These are the parts for the antennae:
* Progressive washers, one had too big of a hole so I had to cut a rubber one to size (black)
* White spacers
* A blue wire nut which I tried to sand down to make it smooth but didn't look good. May revisit later since it screws on perfectly and can be disassembled in the future.
* Long threaded rod which will be cut to size when completed

Here the antennae is assembled prior to painting

Here I've gutted the flash assembly and inserted a mini toggle switch. This was the hardest part mainly in the fact the original Flash was in pristine condition and it just felt destructive. Next I need to cut off the end where it would attach to the camera and fill in the hole.

I found a floor scrapper handle that reasonably matched the original. I'm going to peal back the top black part a bit, saw it off and add a smaller rod to make it fit better.

Here is the scanner as it is now. I was able to recreate the original label on top from the Catacombs page... now I need to recreate the green monitor insert for back of the scanner. It's been awhile since I've used InDesign. Still not quite happy about the end piece of the antennae... but I did build it so the whole thing could unscrew from the flash box and can be taken apart easily.

Here is a link to the Catacombs page where there are great photos of the original prop at the bottom.

http://www.space1999.net/~catacombs/...2mscanner.html

Hopefully more pics to come soon.

Steven

Thanks JD!

The green screen looks hand painted so not really sure of the origins. Going to re-create as a cleaner version since it will be seen closer than it ever was on screen.

Speaking of seen on screen... seems to have been many of these now that I'm looking closer at some pics from the series. This pic is quite different in that the handle is on the opposite side, there is a toggle switch on the end where the mount is, and the back screen is completely different... all the pics from the show appear this way.

Makes me wonder about the claimed original at the bottom of the Catacombs page.

Addendum: Maya in "Matter of Balance" has the handle on the claimed original side, but a different label on top... but that could have changed depending on the next use in the series.

Hi Everyone

i must say real nice work Eagle12

and now here is my Version of the Scanner (and yeah they really had diffrent Versions of it on the Show) hope you like it

First View shows mainly the Antenna all made out of turned Aluminium Parts except for the threaded rod

This View shows the Antenna detached (you can see that i choosen not to insert a toogle switch because now its easier to remove the Antenna by pressing the white Button)

Last View shows the Scanner from the back, all Labels and Screens are printed on self-adhesive Stickers and the Handle is selfmade

Was i some way a bit difficult but was fun to make and maybe i will make another one this time than with toogle switch and maybe the handle on the other side.

Hey Lt. Dyson, great build Have you considered offering these extra bits as a kit to members!! All members need is the doner vintage flash gun- you provide the rest. - I'd take a few kits

You know, I'd never really given this scanner more than a passing glance; it looked so tiny, it seemed fake to me. But I must say that the replicas shown on this thread give me a newfound respect for it. More important, I respect the care & craftsmanship that went into creating the replicas.
