Hows about shaping it and then doubling the thickness?

The texture acrylic is so thin you can bend it like paper. I've check with this supplier and they don't have any other thickness.

I've got some plain clear acrylic. My plan at the moment is to make the ring out of that and then glue the textured stuff on to it. If I do it inside and out it should look pretty close.

The curves are pretty easy to do.

Do NOT try this at home kids
I've got a cardboard curve which is the right size from an old 'hat box'. I pre heat my oven then put the card board curve with a piece of cut acrylic on top.

I WATCH IT CONSTANTLY, as I don't want the whole thing catching fire. It 'melts' pretty quickly, about 5 minutes. Basically when the piece of acrylic drops to from the curve of the card board I take it out (I've got felt gloves etc.) It sets very quickly.

My method is almost identical - i agree that watching it is vital as it goes from non molten to molten almost instantaneously. Fun, isnt it !

Cheers folks!

I made a bit more progess today. Gluing the textured material to another piece of acrylic does look like a bit of a dogs dinner up close, but I think it might be okay? The problem is the 'clouding' the glue causes on the clear surface.

This is just tacked together for the photo.

If I ever manage to source the correct material I will upgrade the helmet later, but I'm sticking with this outer ring for the moment.

Thank you.

Though I still wish I could have bought it complete, like my other Sci-Fi helmets.

It still needs fixing together properly. But this is pretty much 'job done'.

Thanks again to Lionback for sculpting and casting the helmet and face mask. And thanks to everyone on the EagleTransporter.com forum who has posted pictures without which this would have been impossible to produce.

Finally managed to put my costume for a first try.

The suit needs altering as it's too long and bunching up. I also need to get some new badges made.

Very good turn out trooper... now stand to!! Pity you are so far away as we could get a squad thing going here. I have 95% of a Federation officers outfit - just need a black leather belt and its done. Ive changed the triangle in that it attaches to the jumpsuit rather than is on a harness which seemed very easy to lose (provine in countdown).... oh and i need to lose a few more pounds to look really good!

That's looking really good! Until somebody invents a time machine, that's the best match yet I've seen for the outer ring.

Cheers!

I've been trying to mimic clanger68's costume.

I may have to go back the thin down the head rings. The photo is a little distorted by the lens, but I still think they could be a little thinner to match his.

I might wear it a few times first, before putting it in for upgrades ;-)

I've got enough material to make a faux pocket to put a badge on. I'll also need to find some press studs to add.

Have you got good measurements for the triangle of authority? Also a good source for the proper boots?

His helmet is 'minty fresh'.

Hi Ham - i worked it out for myself and will remeasure it and send you my findings - the boots are, as you know, Derry boots and i'll try to retrieve my source for you.
