Default NASA Hyper III

Was the NASA craft the inspiration for the Glider.....

Or would data from 1969 still be classified / secret at the time of writing the script / designing the models? NASA even had an orange one!

Maybe this has already been discussed, couldn't see anything.

Spotted this myself recently, I was surprised that it wasn't common knowledge amongst 1999 fans before now. Down to Brian Johnson, I believe.

Serendipity, to be sure. Space: 1999 evolved from, and expanded upon, real-life space accomplishments - as well as would-be aspirations like this one! Remains amongst its enduring strengths...

How interesting would that be - moving in circles like that and being allowed to use cutting edge technology with in "fictional" work. Especially back then where everything would be word of mouth and real conversations rather than tapping on a keyboard and looking it up...................er....

Statement or question?
I think the similarities are (sans colour) blatant.
I'll see if I have time to cobble together a Photoshop comparison...
