Default 1999 Miniature RPG Figures

Hi,

I am very new to this great forum and please forgive me if this subject has been covered before.

However, would anybody be interested in a fan produced range of miniatures covering the characters, space suited figures and aliens featured in Space 1999?

I am aware the figures could not be produced under any copyrighted banner, but the figures would simply be sculpted to reflect the relevant character.

If these have already been done would someone please be kind enough to point me in the right direction.

Welcome 1701. Good idea with the figures. The more accurate they are, the more can be sold...

There certainly is a market for Figures in 11", 22/23" scale, 44" scale.
Wouldn't it be great to have perfect astronauts standing in different poses in front or beside our Eagles?

Looking forward to what you can offer.

I'm certain I mentioned this a long time ago in one of my earliest posts, but I was hoping that Micro Machines by Galoob would have released a Space 1999 line after their neat Star Wars & Star Trek lines in the 1990's. As with the Star Wars line, they could have relased not only spaceships, but also figure packs with little figures that are around 1/96 scale (good for the 11"-12" Eagles). I knew, of course, that they wouldn't, but it was a nice dream. And yes, I even made a list of the various spaceship packs & figure packs they could have released.
***********
I'm currently collecting parts for converting some Star Wars figures (3 3/4", or 1/18 scale) into S99 figurines. I haven't the patience nor engineering skill to make them as actual action figures, but I was thinking of going Tamiya-style and having assemble-able 'kits' that can be posed according to which arms & legs one puts with which body. Obviously, I want to make many of the principle characters, but was also thinking of doing 'group packs' of around four figures... a group of Security Guards, for example, or a group of Medical personnel (like Dr Mathias and some nurses).
This idea is only in the early planning stages at this point, and if I were to actually make any kind of production run, I haven't a clue at this point about cost nor availability. I still have to construct masters first, then move on to molding & casting. At this point, cost is the main prohibitive factor, followed by time.
Down the road (might be several months at the earliest), I'll post updates as to what, if anything, I'm doing with this.

Oh, I realise these would be too large for Eagle use; they're designed to be nice-looking display pieces, or for use in dioramas. (In other words, sorry about hijacking the thread... carry on!)

1701,

Please let me also welcome you to the board. I don't think you'll find a more helpful and also importantly, civil board anywhere on the net.

Obviously depending on cost, I would be interested in 1/48th scale (scale with 22" Eagle)character figures or even just accurate spacesuited figures.

Please keep us informed as to what you end up doing.

Again, welcome.

What a very friendly and overwhelming response from everyone.

I have been sculpting figures and models for quite a number of years and, was interested in covering a subject that had not been previously produced.
I have always been a fan of UFO & Space 1999 and was very surprised to find no RPG miniature figures had been produced to cover these mediums.

I usually work within 28mm scale and can cast either in resin for model kits, spare parts etc or, metal for figures and can easily produce the finished product.

I see the replies mention many different scales/sizes, but what do you think of figures in a standard 28mm size cast in white metal?

28mm is great for RPG figures, but I think just about everyone here want's (needs) some scaled figures to go with the models they already have.
And as you say, that's one area that's been missed so far.

I for one would buy a set in any scale, but more in the 11/12" eagle scale.

You wouldn't go far wrong with 11"-12" and 22"-23" too.

1701,

I agree with DX. While I'm sure there are some RPG players here, the general need would be for figures to go along with our models. For the most part that means (people, please correct me if I'm wrong) 1/96, 1/72 and 1/48 scale figures.
